ABOUT THE BOOK
Preteens hold unprecedented influence on culture, more so than at any other time in history. Yet anyone who has spent time in children’s or middle school ministry has stories of preteens who sit against the back wall, roll their eyes at whatever leaders say, and barely tolerate the hour. Or of some who just don’t show up at all.
Today’s preteens are getting lost in transition as they shift from childhood to adolescence, a unique and challenging time when they are not quite one thing and not quite the other.
In Caught In Between, Dan Scott draws from his experiences in both education and ministry, adds in the latest research findings, sums up conversations every ministry leader is having, and crafts a comprehensive plan to engage your preteens in ways that will ensure they have what they need to build an authentic faith.
Caught In Between is a practical guide for leaders in children’s, student, nextgen, and family ministry. It offers …
- An in-depth look at who preteens are today
- A strategy for creating (or rethinking) a preteen ministry in your church
- A step-by-step process for planning, preparing, and launching your preteen ministry (with specific tips for small churches), and
- Worksheets and checklists to help with volunteer recruitment, budgeting, designing your physical environment, and more.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
“Three of my four kids managed to survive the preteen years. I should rephrase that: All four of my kids are going to survive the preteen years—the last one is just living this crucial stage right now. As a dad, I was amazed at how challenging this time can be. Even as a youth worker with more than 20 years of experience, I sometimes felt underprepared, and wasn’t always equipped like I had hoped. This book will help you be ready to meet preteens where they are. Caught In Between couldn’t be more timely, as it’s critical to understanding the preteen phase … Grab this book and get the help you need now, as well as a hope for this generation and our church’s future.”
—Josh Griffin, co-founder, Download Youth Ministry
“The preteen years are a unique, challenging, and incredibly important phase of a child’s life. And while almost every church recognizes this, many have struggled to create an effective ministry designed specifically for this age group. Caught In Between is hands-down the best book I’ve ever read on this important ministry. I’ve never read a book by an author who understands preteens the way Dan Scott does.”
—Kurt Johnston, nextgen pastor, Saddleback Church
